With the exception of the historic Blue Duck Hotel at Anglers Rest, they are all places that formerly hosted business houses during the goldfields boom and bust era between the 1850s and 1950s. Some are now quiet or abandoned mountain localities with ever-diminishing remnants of their past. Others have entirely vanished off modern-day maps.
The first edition of this book told, in brief, the stories of fifty of these places and the people who once lived there.
This second edition expands and improves on those places and stories, drawing on the vast amount of information and public records that have recently been made available via the internet.
The book has now been enlarged from an initial 79 pages to more than 240 pages, with an increase in places featured from about fifty to sixty-one.
Coverage includes that part of the Victorian Alpine region between Bairnsdale in Gippsland and Bright in North-Eastern Victoria.
